Eagles, too!
We're all watching and waiting for the Peregrine eggs to hatch, but it seems we have a pair of Bald Eagles with egg, too. I observed for about 2 hours today (somewhere in Marion County). The female never budged from the nest and the male stayed close by for the most part. After I'd settled into my spot, he did fly off for a bit and came back all wet. No food was brought back to the nest.

WOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!! Is this the nest near the river on the Southwest side? I live near there, and I have been hoping and hoping to see them, but this is my first glimpse! I am not spry enough to get out there anymore, but it is surprising what one can see from a car window or roadside.
Are you a good bird identifier- or do you know of someone?? I have pics of some hawks that are nesting near Speedway. They are rather different from each other...and we think there are 3. We cant figure out if they are Coopers or Sharp Shinned hawks.
Yes you have the area. It's been suggested to me that I not get specific, so the site isn't inundated with people. It's pretty much off the beaten path and a serious hike to get there.
I'm not much of an authority on bird IDs, but usually google.com will turn up good pictures and identification. You might find this site helpful: http://www.bsc-eoc.org
I agree-there are too many people who might not behave themselves if they knew *exactly* where to find Mr & Mrs Eagle. I live near Southport Rd and the White River and often cruise around, looking toward the river and hoping for a glimpse.
I have often visited Clarksville Mo in the winter to see the eagles feeding in the open water near a lock there. Some years there have been hundreds of eagles, others just a few. i have seen a nest there, amazingly huge!
I glimpsed what looked like an immature bald near Eagle Creek Park and 465 a few weeks ago. I have seen a pair in flight near Cataract Falls once, and the resident Eagles out at Raccoon Lake. Now i have seen my "neighbors", closer up than i would have ever gotten. I will keep watching your blog in hopes of seeing more pictures of this handsome couple-and maybe the kids. :=) Be a little careful out there...many wild dogs and coyotes and "coydogs" in this neck of the woods. I have a friend who got treed by a pack last fall. Walk softly, but don't forget the big stick.
Thanks once again for sharing your marvelous photos.
I hope to go back out this weekend to look for a better position (vs. where the sun was on my last trip) and take more pictures. I have no idea when the eggs (assuming there are some) were layed, but I will be sure to stop out there in early May to look for any signs of young ones. There would also be many more opportunities at that time to see the adults in flight as they would be busy feeding the babies.
