Flapping away

Today I noticed at least one of the youngsters is flapping his/her wings. Another stage in their development has been reached.

That's a non-stop job these days. The younguns are sure getting big.

Double your pleasure

An unusual feeding handled by BOTH adults:

What'd you bring us Mom?

What'd you bring us Dad?

Fatherly protection

Belated Easter Bonnet?

A great feeding sequence

KathyQ moved to the side for this feeding, providing us with a good look.

Are we cute, or what?

Feeding Time

KathyQ feeding her brood.

4 at last!

Yes, here they are. All four present and accounted for!

The tease continues

How does she do it? Never let's us see more than 3 at a time?

Briefly Visible

Mom stepped out for a moment. Now, where's that 4th egg? It's hard to tell. So many shells. That's probably it behind the chick on the right, in the background. For a fleeting moment, I thought the 4th egg was pushed over towards the side of the box, but that clearly has a flat top so it's half of one that already hatched.

Whazzz Uppppp!

I'm beginning to think one of our guys is a little wierd. Reminds me of 'Woodstock' from the Peanuts comic strip. Every single view and the beak is straight up, appearing to be laughing about something. Maybe we have a comedian in our midst?

Well anyway, for now we still are at three and holding.

Beak Check

One. Two. Three.

Three plus 1 plus Kinney

The band looks silvery, so I assume this is Kinney. Others seem to agree with me, so we'll call this one Mr. K.

Now there are THREE

Now there are definitely 3 hatched. Just one more to go!

Chicks a Poppin'

At least two, for certain. Or is it three?

Count them

Is that one and a shadow, or is it TWO?

First to hatch

It reportedly hatched at 6:15am today, but I didn't see the fuzzball until about 12 hours later.

I'm no expert, but I believe that the top image shows the 'egg tooth' protruding from the tip of the upper beak. But I don't actually know what an egg tooth looks like.

Eating in the nest

A really good look at mom eating, with the first chick visible in the background

New Eagle Cam listed

I found this one today:

http://www.wvec.com/cams/eagle1.html

This also works:

http://www.wvec.com/cams/eagle.html

It's live video (during daylight hours) of a bald eagle nest at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens in Virginia.

There are three hatched chicks at this time.

(If you double-click on the picture, it opens up full-screen)

Catching a few peeks

Really not much happening these days. But the 'K's are keeping late hours. They were both in the box and awake at 2am.

Around mid-day there was another handoff of the incubation duties.

Baby it's cold outside

After unseasonably warm weather yesterday (near 80 degrees), it's down to just 32 as I write this.

Odd Position

I have no idea what was going on, but it was a very strange position!

Kinney steps out

Having taken a turn while KathyQ was away, Kinney relinquishes the job now that she's returned.
